General Comments:
I needed so much from just wandering into this site..and I found it....the validation that I am not ccrazy..that it is a survival mechanism, and that the "voice written in the darkness" gives me so much peace. I have MS and have been sober for 22 years in AA, but still find the need to cut. Severly abused as a child, and most of my life has been a mystery...until I see myself bleed. Amazing tool to get back to my own reality, which is easier than the one outside. Thanks so much....

What was your favorite part of the site? therapy abuse

General Comments:
I was abused by my therapist and it led to my eating disorder, as well as personal problems as well as professional ones. I lost 30 lbs - everyone tells me how beautiful I am but they dont see the hurt and pain I feel each day. I did go to the police right away and now the case is in the criminal courts. He, of course, denies anything. And each time there is an upcoming hearing or anything related to him, my eating gets worse. I have a great female therapist who is helping but it is still soooo hard. The worst part is that he is still practicing and could be doing this to others. Best wishes to everyone who is struggling...my thoughts are with you

I am actually writing a paper on body image and I found this website that when at first click it just captured my attention. I have not struggled with actually regurgitating my food (mostly due to the simple fact that I have the worst phobia of vomit. But I have struggled in other areas similar to those expressed on your website. A big question I have though is, in any way did the media, play a part in your experience with this issue, or do you know many that say it has. How strong of an influence? If anyone has an answer to this please feel free to contact me at my e-mail: Pumpkin93550@yahoo.com ALSO I just wanted to tell you that your website is amazing. Your story is so REAl. If that makes sense and I wish everyone continued suceess in every battle, this too shall pass. I believe that our bodies, no matter what you believe are creations of God! How else do you explain the complexity and uniquness. How everything works together in a system like man cannot re-create. Your Body is the lord's temple. How do we want to keep ot's sanctuary.

I was exploring eating disorder sites on google (actually ceahow meeting listings) and followed the links. This is a great site. I printed out the alternatives to bingeing amd identifying feelings pages. I hope the alter. to self-abuse help others although I know they wouldn't have helped me when I was in that behaviour mode. I have, thank God, found my way free of the cutting, burning, and physically self-bashing for the last 3 1/2 years. Still working on the coe/bingeing and low self-estemm but have come a long, long way in the last 10-12 years after beginning to work on a childhood of incest, neglect etc and youth of repeated rapes etc. There is hope if we don't give up hope.

I came to this site because i realized that i needed help. I thought that i was overcoming my eating disorder, but i realized that im still just beginning. I've realized that this is a serious thing, and that nobody should just sit around and let themselves become consumed by it. this is like a disease. it IS a disease, and like an epidemic, it is spreading out faster than any virus that i have ever seen. i am the third person in my tiny school class alone to be stricken by a serious eating disorder, the second person to be hospitalized for one, and the third has yet to go. Unless im mistaken, there is no other disease of epidemic proportions in existance that strikes this hard, this fast, and this frequently.

this is just as serious as teen pregnancy, drug addiction, HIV, and even AIDS, if not worse. It can be just as serious, just as harmful to a teen's life, and it can be just as deadly as any of these dangers that are posed to us. it can strike just as quickly, and it can stay with a person for years, if not for an entire lifetime.

Aids has been blown out of the closet with a multitude of awareness activism and prevention measures. the epidemic is hopefully more under control now than it was a few years ago.

the same steps need to be taken with eating disorders. we need to strike now. i can see, even within my own hometown, how serious this is becoming.

we need to come out of the secrecy that an eating disorder entails.

we need to be able to ask for help. we need to be able to feel safe, and to feel that we can come out into society as people with a simple problem, as people who will not be discriminated against for our problems.

if anybody agrees with me, please contact me. i want to start speaking out about eating disorders, and making sure that this epidemic can dissapear as soon as possible.

This site is awesome. It helps me realize how much life really is worth living. I have been suffering from eds for alomost three years. My family has suffered, but so have I. If its not worth the pain, then why do I keep going back and I dont know why. I would like to find a site on chewing and spitting because I have experienced this and it is hard to conquer, especially with little info out there about it. If anyone has any more advice on overcoming emotional eating and just being okay with yourself, I would seriously appreciate it. I am in single and group therapy, but I seem to need all the help I can get. My prayers are with all those in this world who suffer from eds and all the silent killers out there.

Was this site helpful to you? Yes, It showed me I am not alone really. Somethign that I have been feeling for a long time even during reading at the Something Fishy about Eating Disorders Website. This site had shown me that others do suffer to from all of this crap.
What was your favorite part of the site? Reading your personal story which I could relate to in some ways and which helped me to see that I am not totally alone. I admire you for being able to speak out about this stuff. I wish I could do that.

General Comments: This site is helpful in many ways. Thank you for having it and having it open for people to come to. I only wish I didn't feel so alone and isolated in this. I have anorexia and nobody eles knows about it but a dr I went to 1 time and I am not doing very well with it right now, but coming here at least I know I am not the only one who suffers from these things.

Until i ended up at the drs with 3rd degree burns and infections i never even knew there was a name for what i did, let alone that anyone else might hurt themselves too. I have never had couselling, as i am a 'listener' and definitely not a 'talker', but i know i need to find a way to stop hurting myself. i have scars all over my body, and i am still adding to them, even today. i am ashamed of my body because of these scars, but the urge to hurt overcomes any other thought e.g. of no more scars. i hope that i may one day be able to ask for help, but at the moment i do not feel i a Samantha Williams <willsam911@yahoo.com>

Was this site helpful to you? Yes
What was your favorite part of the site?

General Comments:
I really wanted to take the opportunity to thank you Bibri for your helpful words in the SF chat room last week. My name there is Carnelian and we spoke about "shame". Your words were very helpful and I was able to tackle talking about my thoughts for the first time in therapy, despite the huge shame I was feeling. For the first time in years I think I may be able to do this therapy thing because I can push the shame and fear down just enough - I hope so anyway. My obsessive thinking has been giving me a run for my money, since my last therapy appointment - how stupid I looked, how dumb it was to talk about being ashamed of my mother, how everyone else does a much better job in therapy, everyone else has more important and interesting issues etc. But my T told me that she feels my shame is tied in very closely to my extreme perfectionism, so for every thought my head screamed at me, I could see how that was true. She asked me what I was having for dinner as I was leaving my appointment, since I was having my father over for dinner that night, and I couldn't tell her, I was so full of shame, my body was stone cold just thinking about trying to answer that - because I felt my dinner wasn't "good" enough. I was ashamed. This is why I have spent years in therpy offices, saying almost nothing. I try so hard not to lie, so I say nothing.
Sorry for blabbing on and on Bibri, I didn't think it was appropriate to put it on the SF board and I wasn't sure how else to reach you. Hope this was OK. Just had to say thank you. (from my T and myself, and my psychiatrist) You were very helpful.

Best wishes, Kathie (Carnelian)

General Comments: As the daughter of an anorexic/bulimic i understand the pain of seeing someone slowly kill themselves in front of you and feeling powerless to stop it. I understand the fear that genetics plays a role in who develops an eating disorder and i feel that any attempt to get support and help out to those who need it is a valuable thing.

Hi
I just wanted to post a message for anyone suffering who is trying to bring up the courage to tell someone. Let me tell you that it is a thousand times worth it! I know from experience that you spend weeks worrying about how the person will react, to the point that you persuade yourself to keep your secret for a bit longer, but the feeling that you get after telling someone is something that you need, especially if you want to get better, like I do. Just knowing that someone is there to listen to what you have to say, and to offer help and support can make you feel better, and it can also help you come to terms with it in your own head. It is really good for me to know that somebody out there knows and cares, that i'm not on my own, and now I'm ready to start recovery, because I have things to work for, like seeing my friend Suzi in Germany. I know that many people think that they can cope by themselves, but I tried and I know that you can't succeed on your own. Even if you feel, like me, that you can't tell your family, tell someone else, a friend, a councillor, even a youth leader!
Good luck in recovery and may your life get better from now on
Siani

This site was very helpfull as it convinced me that I needed help. I had suffered in silence for over a year because I was too ashamed of myself and my 'weakness' that I didn't want others to know. Now I am seeking help, and have finally told Ruth, my youth leader, because I realised that it was better to share a problem with someone you trust and deal with it together, than to keep it to yourself and live with the weight on your shoulders. Hopefully I will be able to post on this site sometime in the future to say that I have recovered, but for now I just want to say that I am going to try my best, because I DESERVE BETER
